Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a video cost?

Video production pricing is determined by a number of factors that will influence the overall investment. Cost is generally influenced by the time and effort required. Things to take into consideration are pre-production, filming and post-production.

Pre-Production: A big part of creating an amazing video is the planning that takes place before it’s actually filmed. Creative direction, scriptwriting, storyboarding, music licensing search, talent search, location scouting, organizing transportation. These are all things that will affect the pre-production costs of a video.

Filming: Having a great day on set is determined by the crew and equipment. How big of a crew does the project need? How many cameras? What kind of lighting? What kind of sound equipment? How long is the crew needed? These all affect the price.

Post-Production: Editing is where the story really comes together. This can be tedious and take a lot of time to do right. Footage needs to be transported, stored and sorted. To handle such large and complex files expensive editing computers are needed to edit the footage. Music needs to be found that fits the video as well as licensed. Footage needs to be trimmed down and colour graded. The audio in the video needs to be edited as well. Putting the footage together in a way that properly tells a story also takes time. Exporting, uploading and sharing final videos for revisions also takes time. These are all different factors that increase the price of a project.

Does the length of the video impact its price?

Yes and no, it’s more dependant on the overall time and people required to create a video. A 30-second commercial may take 3 days of filming and 2 days of editing. This is going to cost more than a 30-minute live presentation video that requires a day of filming and minimal editing.

What is your turnaround time?

Our typical turnaround time is 2-3 weeks depending on the size of the project. If a rush project is needed we’re more than capable of handling that if agreed upon prior to filming.

Do you charge for revisions?

Each video project includes one round of revisions up to two hours of editing time (including exports and delivery). Additional charges will come after those two hours. No revisions will be billed unless agreed upon with the client prior.

Who owns the raw footage?

Vanguard Creative owns all of the raw footage unless stated otherwise in the estimate. This is for a number of reasons. Raw footage may be purchased on a case-by-case basis.

Do you require a deposit when booking?

Before any pre-production starts we required a 50% deposit after the contract is finalized. This is to ensure our crew is paid and that there are no last-minute cancellations.
